A local Warmachine & Hordes group organized a Secret Santa painting exchange over the Christmas period. I’m a sucker for those fun painting incentive, so I jumped in. It started a bit late, so we had up to the middle of January to finish our project and send them off.

Do you want to build a snowman?
Last year, Derek, one of my fellow local hobbyist, asked me to sculpt a snow golem for his pretty thematic Frostgrave warband. So here is a small compilation of wip pictures as I sculpted along, as well as my own painted version, as it was cast so that Derek could have multiple to share with his young ones too.

Showcase – A visit to the zoo
I’ve owned Pulp City models for a while, a bit before the kickstarter project for the most recent edition of the game. A pretty varied lot, gotten through the used market, but with a strong concentration of primates from the A.R.C. (Ape Revolution Committee) faction.
When I initially planned to paint them, I knew I wanted to stay pretty close to the official schemes, which I like a lot, but I was stuck at where to go with the bases. The studio models use all different basing schemes, and while it makes the individual minis pop, it lacks a certain team visual. At that time, nothing in pre-made resin caught my eye, and I had no idea for scratch building my own, so they ended up put aside in a closet while I jumped on other projects.
Showcase – Black Gate Miniatures 10mm fantasy ogres
This is a surprise follow-up to the 10mm fantasy ogre Kickstarter feature I did a couple weeks ago about Black Gate Miniatures. After posting the article, the guys behind the project contacted me and offered to send me some sample miniatures. It was short before the end of the project, especially with UK > Canada shipping, but why not! Continue reading “Showcase – Black Gate Miniatures 10mm fantasy ogres”
Showcase – Butchers’ starter
Last year, I discovered the game Guild Ball by Steamforged Games, and since then, it has become the center of my gaming time. I’m slowly painting the models, pushing them a bit more than I would usually do for play pieces, as the game requires only 6.
Here is my Butcher Guild starter. I chose to use only a little bit of red compared to the official scheme, only painting a single accessory in that colour per model, and blood effect, of course!
Showcase – Lylyth, Reckoning of Everblight
You’ve already seen the making of the base some weeks ago, but the model that goes on it is finally done. Here is Lylyth, Reckoning of Everblight, of of the warlocks from the Legion of Everblight faction for the game Hordes, by Privateer Press. It was a challenging model to paint, with all the filigrees and the differents textures.

Showcase – Mandragora
I recently made an unboxing of what I got in the latest Endless: Fantasy Tactics Kickstarter by On The Lamb Games. In that post, I said that I wanted to paint the Mandragora as soon as possible, because of my love of the model.
Well, it’s now done, and what a cool model it was to paint! I’m now wondering if I shouldn’t order a couple more of it to try out different colour schemes, with all the fun I had painting it. 🙂
Space Station Yaumato – The final result
Now that the building phase is done, it’s time to reveal the final result! Here is the Space Station Yaumato, fully painted, with some models to give an idea of scale. No more useless banter, we go straight to the pictures.
Showcase – Baron Celcius Von Fahrenheit
My most recent painting project was bit out of left field; for the first time, I painted a miniature representation of someone I knew in the flesh. The model in question is that of Baron Celcius Von Fahrenheit, from RAFM Miniatures. That miniature was created after a steampunk cosplay contest, where the winner got is personna transformed in a 28mm scale version of itself.
The friend in question is the steampunk cosplayer Alexandre Adam, who is behind the character of Baron Celcius Von Fahrenheit. He is also the guy behind the Youtube channel Kinetoscope Parlour, where he meets “strange and wonderful people”, coming from the steampunk subculture or other completely different way of being strange.
